Role Overview
We are looking for a highly skilled Thermophotonic (TP) Device Engineer to work on design, fabrication, and optimization of high-efficiency thermophotonic energy conversion devices. This role involves full-stack device development, including epitaxial growth, wafer processing, characterization, packaging, and thermal-photonic performance modeling. Experience with III–V semiconductor materials and device physics is strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop high-efficiency photovoltaic and thermophotonic devices, including multijunction III-V structures, GaSb/InGaAs cells, spectral-selective energy converters, and photonic energy amplifiers.
- Perform epitaxial growth using MOCVD / MBE, including reactor operation, precursor selection, growth recipe optimization, and in-situ monitoring systems (RHEED, pyrometry, interferometry).
- Lead semiconductor wafer-level processing:
- Photolithography
- Wet & dry etching (RIE, ICP)
- Metallization and ohmic contact engineering
- Surface passivation and anti-reflection coatings
- Thin-film and dielectric deposition (ALD, PECVD, sputtering, evaporation)
- Develop optical and photonic structures including selective emitters, photonic crystals, interference filters and dielectric mirrors for spectral control.
- Oversee device packaging, thermal interface engineering, and interconnect architecture for high-temperature operation.
- Collaborate with system engineering teams to integrate devices with thermal emitters, optical coupling assemblies, power electronics, and energy storage interfaces.
- Support cooling, heat extraction & thermal management for high-temperature applications.
- Evaluate scaling readiness, fabrication partnerships and production.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s/Master’s/PhD in Semiconductor Physics, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Nanotechnology, Photonics, or related field.
- 3–10 years of experience in semiconductor device fabrication & measurement.
- Strong hands-on experience with MOCVD, MBE, thin-film deposition, lithography, and clean-room processes.
- Expertise working with II-VI or III-V compounds (GaSb, InGaAs, GaAs, InP, AlGaAs, Ge, GaN, SiC preferable).
- Experience with thermophotonic / radiative recombination-based energy amplification devices.
- Experience in spectral matching, optical cavity engineering, and photon recycling.
- Knowledge of heat transfer, thermal imaging, infrared spectroscopy, radiative emissivity modeling.
- Strong understanding of photonic structures, optical coatings, and energy conversion physics.
- Proficiency in scientific data analysis and semiconductor simulation.
